Questions from citizens of the Union
Europeans, people from the EEA and the Swiss register rather than apply: the EX-18, the green certificate, proof of means, and the families who come with them.
I am an Italian student here for a full academic year. What do I need?
A year is well past the three-month line, so you file the EX-18 and come away with the green certificate, NIE included. Your enrolment at the University of Granada and your health cover prove your situation.
Will a landlord want my NIE?
Usually, yes: landlords and agencies commonly ask for it, and utility companies and banks will. A passport is enough to visit and agree; the number becomes necessary soon after.
Where is the certificado de registro UE done in Granada?
The University of Granada’s guide books it at the Oficina de Extranjería, San Agapito 2; the police directory lists the EU regime at the Brigada on Calle La Palmita as well. Your cita previa confirmation names the office.
What does a retired European show as proof of means?
Pension statements or bank statements, and health cover: an entitlement to public healthcare from the country that pays your pension, registered in Spain with the S1 form, or a comprehensive private policy.
Can I register before I find a job?
Yes, as a resident with sufficient means and health cover. A job offer alone is not proof of work; a signed contract or a Social Security registration is.
My partner is not European. Do we apply together?
Not on one file. Your own registration comes first, or on the same day; your partner then files the EX-19, a procedure of its own, booked separately.
Still unsure which procedure is yours? Send us a letter, or read the questions from beyond the union.
