Auxiliares de conversación

Auxiliares de conversación: the papers before the first class

Language assistants placed in Granada or its province book TIE fingerprints after arriving if their passport is from outside the Union, or register on form EX-18 if it is European. The school may be in the city or in a town, and the paperwork follows the address where you actually live.

With a passport from outside the Union

Assistants from the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia and elsewhere enter on the visa their consulate issued for the programme. Because the placement lasts longer than six months, the TIE follows: the padrón of your town, the 790-012 fee for the card, then the fingerprints, booked on the cita previa for the province of Granada.

Carry your appointment letter from the education authorities to every step. It is the document that explains, in Spanish, why you are here.

On a European passport

Irish, French, German, Italian and other European assistants register on form EX-18 once they have settled. The appointment letter and their health cover show their situation; the green certificate and its NIE are what the monthly payment and the bank will ask for.

Placed outside the city

A school in Motril, Almuñécar or another town of the Costa Tropical puts you nearer the Comisaría de Motril, where the police directory places card issue and NIE certificates. Around Baza, the Comisaría de Baza is the nearer desk. Either way, the padrón is done at the town hall of the place where you live, not where you teach.

Questions

Should I wait for my school before booking?

Coordinators often help, but the calendar is yours: the TIE has to be requested soon after entry. Reserve the fingerprints the week your padrón comes through.

Does the grant need a Spanish bank account?

The monthly payment goes to a Spanish account in your name. Banks open one with your passport and, in most cases, your NIE or the details of your TIE.

I am staying for a second year. What changes?

Your authorisation has to be extended in Spain before it ends, with the new appointment letter. Once it is granted, a new card is made from fingerprints.
