Residencia para teletrabajo de carácter internacional
Working remotely from Granada, with a residence that allows it
Non-EU professionals who work for a company or clients outside Spain can live in Granada on the residence for international teleworkers, known to most as the digital nomad visa and introduced by Spain’s 2022 start-up law. It is requested at a consulate or, from inside Spain, online; a TIE follows once you are here.
Two ways to apply
From abroad, the request goes to the Spanish consulate as a visa for international teleworkers, which leads to a TIE once you arrive. From inside Spain, if your stay is legal, the residence authorisation is requested online from the Unidad de Grandes Empresas y Colectivos Estratégicos.
Either way, the file shows a real professional relationship with the company or the clients abroad, your qualifications or experience, sufficient income, health cover and a clean criminal record.
Once you are settled in Granada
- Register on the padrón at your address
- Pay the card fee and book the fingerprints on the cita previa
- Attend the toma de huellas with the EX-17 and your visa or resolution
- Collect the TIE, and keep your padrón and your contract records up to date for the renewal
Taxes and Social Security
Spending most of the year in Spain generally makes you resident for tax purposes, and working remotely raises Social Security questions that turn on where your employer sits. Those belong with a tax adviser; our part is the residence and its documents. For everything else a move involves, the relocation advisers at AnchorLess cover more ground than we do.
Questions
Can I apply as a freelancer?
Yes, provided most of your work is for clients outside Spain. A limited share of Spanish clients is allowed; the file has to show the international activity.
Can my family come with me?
A partner and children can be included as family members of the teleworker, each with a residence of their own.
What about buying a property for residence?
Not any more: that door closed in 2025, when Spain abolished the investor residence known as the golden visa.
