Tarjeta de residencia de familiar comunitario

The card for relatives of Europeans, with the EX-19

A relative from outside the Union who lives in Granada with a European (a husband or wife, a registered partner, a grown child, an elderly parent) files form EX-19 to obtain a residence card of their own, the tarjeta de familiar comunitario. They do not register as Europeans do.

Who can ask for it

  • Husband or wife, or the partner of a registered union
  • Sons and daughters below 21, and older ones who still live at the family’s expense, whether children of the European or of the spouse
  • Parents and grandparents supported by the household
  • Further relatives, and partners in a lasting but unregistered relationship, whom the office assesses one by one

How the file is built

The European should hold the EU registration certificate first, or apply at the same time, because the card derives from their residence. The family member brings form EX-19, a valid passport, the papers that prove the family link (marriage or birth certificates carrying an apostille or a legalisation, with a sworn translation when they are not in Spanish), proof that the European is registered and meets the conditions of residence, recent photographs and the fee receipt.

Once the card is granted, it is made from the TIE fingerprints the police take at a later appointment.

Questions

Is a wedding a condition?

It is not. A registered union weighs the same as a marriage, and an unregistered couple can qualify too if documents show the relationship has lasted; the decision rests with the office.

Which office decides the card in Granada?

The Subdelegación del Gobierno lists this card among the authorisations of its Oficina de Extranjería, Calle San Agapito 2. The fingerprints are taken by the police, at the desk your appointment confirmation names.
