Vocabulario
Vocabulario: the Spanish of your file
Forms, desks and confirmations speak Spanish. These are the words you will meet most often in a NIE, TIE or padrón procedure in Granada, each explained in a line.
- Alta en el padrón
- Your first registration on a town’s register of residents. A move within the same town is a cambio de domicilio.
- Apostilla
- The certificate that makes a foreign public document valid in Spain, under the Hague Convention; documents from other countries are legalised instead.
- Arraigo
- A residence granted for roots built in Spain, through time spent here, work, family or training.
- Autorización de regreso
- A paper that bridges a trip abroad while a residence card is pending, renewed or replaced.
- Certificado de registro
- The green proof that a European lives in Spain, NIE included.
- Cita previa
- A reserved date and time. Police procedures for foreigners hand them out only through one national website.
- Comisaría
- A police station. In the province of Granada, those of Motril and Baza list procedures for foreigners.
- Empadronamiento
- The act of registering on the padrón, the municipal register of residents, at the ayuntamiento.
- Extranjería
- Everything concerning foreign nationals, and by extension the offices that handle it.
- Hoja de empadronamiento
- The padrón registration form, signed by every adult it lists.
- Justificante
- A proof or receipt: of payment, of an appointment, of a request in process.
- Modelo 790, código 012
- The payment slip behind the police fees for foreigners, from the NIE certificate to the TIE.
- Resolución
- The written decision on an application, granting or refusing it.
- Sede electrónica
- The electronic office of an administration, where procedures are filed online, usually with a digital certificate.
- Subdelegación del Gobierno
- Madrid’s outpost in each province; Granada’s holds the Oficina de Extranjería on Calle San Agapito.
- Tasa
- An official fee, paid before the procedure and proved with the stamped receipt.
- TIE
- The plastic card that residents from outside the Union carry, the Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero, produced from the fingerprints the police take.
- Volante and certificado
- Two papers proving your padrón registration: the volante is informative, the certificado has official value and is the one most procedures ask for.
